RHEE Elected According to the 11 May issue of the PYUN WHA ILBO, a right-wing SEOUL newspaper, RHEE Syng Man announced that he is proud to be among the members of KOREA's first National Assembly. RHEE was first in line to cast a ballot - thereby assuring himself of a majority - in his election district, TONG DAI MUN (East Gate) "A". COMMENT: RHEE was one of 12 unopposed candidates running for the 200 seat assembly. Thumb print forgeries disqualified the only other contender, T'CHEI Nung Jin. b. Election Officials Reluctant To Function On CHEJU-DO Difficulty developed in holding the election on CHEJU-DO because of the reluctance of election officials to open polls or to handle any election material because of fear of communist reprisals. Approximately fifty percent of the district committees resigned in the CHONCHUN (965-1156) area. In all, 65 district polls failed to function on election day. Military government officials assisted in the distribution and collection of election materials in approximately 50 percent of the northern guns. (MG report) 3.
