ARMED FORCES a. North Korean Constabulary Violate Parallel Approximately 50 North Korean Constabularymen violated the parallel and attacked a police box in the vicinity of NULMONG NI (971.3-1695.5) at 060400 May. The NKC fired two rounds and threw seven sticks of dynamite in the direction of the police box. South Korean police returned the fire and the NKC withdrew. No casualties were reported. (7th Div. Flash rpt. D-3) 2. POLITICAL ACTIVITIES Negative. 3. CIVIL UNREST a. Election and Pre-Election Activities As of 101200 May the Korean National election was apparently progressing as planned. Pre-election communist violence consisted mostly of sabotage to communications with the heaviest concentration of activities in KYONGSANG-PUKTO, KYONGSANG-NAMDO, CHOLLA-NAMDO and KANGWON-DO. Information has been received that election day activities will be concentrated particularly on attacks on voting booths and on the destruction of ballots by arson. Reports received up to the end of the period indicate that the majority of attacks on voting booths are occurring in TAEGU, KYONGSANG-PUKTO.
