A Round-Table Conference with the Youth Leaders. (A statement released, by the PRO of the Department of Police, concerning the press conference held at 1000, 9 March 1948.) Facing the impending general election, the Public Relations Office of the Department of Police, held a RoundTable Conference with the leaders of the Youth Groups, at the Director's Office, at 1400, 8 March 1948, with a view of being helpful in creating a free atmosphere for holding the election. There were present about 40 leaders, representing 16 Youth Associations. At the meeting, Director Chough pointed out the historic importance of the general election in the way of completing our national independence and unification, and he, further, emphasized the fact that the election must be carried out as a free and unfettered one in a state of peace and order so that, internally, a national government that will truly express the will of the nation may be established and that, through a successful conclusion of the election, the political capabilities of our people may be proven to the world. All those who were present concurred unanimously with the views of the Director, and they fully pledged themselves to cooperate patriotically in the election and to exert their best effort to create, through self-discipline and self-control, a free environment under which a fair election will be elected.
