미군사고문단 주간 활동 수신: 주한미육군사령부 사령관 발신: 미군사고문단장 1949년 4월 7일 한국 육군 9. 작전 b. 남한: 이 기간 남한에서 32건이 보고됐고, 결과는 다음과 같다. 적: 작전 중 사망 196명, 포로 29명 국군: 작전 중 사망 9명, 작전 중 부상 14명 c. 제주도: 제주도에서 4건이 보고됐고, 결과는 다음과 같다. 적: 작전 중 사망 50명, 포로 95명 국군: 작전 중 사망 및 포로 없음 d. 전반적인 작전 사항 (1) 남한 전역에서 작전들이 크게 개선되고 있다. 아군 사상자와 무기 및 장비의 손실은 거의 무시할만한 수준이다. 이러한 성공을 가져온 요인은 훈련을 통해 향상된 효율성, 더 나은 조직과 지휘, 늘어난 신호통신, 중앙 정보 시스템의 구축 및 적절한 사용, 그리고 이 못지않게 중요한 그것을 운용하는 해당 지역 지휘관의 개선된 지식이다. 한국 해군 12. 한국 해군은 제주도 주변과 한국의 남단에서 가까운 섬들을 계속 적극적으로 순찰하고 있다. 병력: 장교 399명, 초급장교 265명, 사병 4,843명, 총 5,507명 W. 319.1 Weekly Activities, KMAG CG, USAFIK Chief, KMAG 7 Apr 49 KOREAN ARMY 1. 29 March, 353 Special Cadets graduated from the Korean Military Academy. These Special Cadets consisted of Ordnance and Engineer technicians, also 155 Middle School Physical Training Teachers. The Physical Training Teachers will return to their schools and instruct students on ROTC subjects. 2. 1 April, the Provisional Artillery School, KA held a demonstration at Kangju. Demonstration included adjustment by forward observer; a TOT problem and firing from map data. The demonstration was highly successful and completely run by the Koreans. The TOT problem involved 2 battalions of mass fire and the target area was adequately covered with a heavy concentration of fire. Worthy of note - no fire direction equipment had been furnished KA from US sources. FDC was accomplished by improvisation. 3. Platoon demonstrations put on by the 5th RCT for the Korean Army were held in the 6th, 15th and 16th Regimental areas. These demonstrations continue and will cover a represented portion of all units of the six divisions. 4. One (1) company of the 17th Regiment assumed perimeter guard duty of the American Ammunition Dumps, Ascom, 31 March. 5. A total of eight (8) correspondence courses have been distributed to units in the field. Over 2,000 officers are participating in this work, G-3 Section, KA is keeping a complete file which covers personnel participating, subject of course and the final grades. 6. Korean Army Quartermaster assumed operational control of the Tong Dai Moo Clothing Factory 25 March for the purpose of manufacturing uniforms for the Korean Army. Korean Quartermaster is now capable of equipping the individual soldier with all clothing and equipment items required, less steel helmets and liners. 7. The new R&U course currently running at Engineers School, Kimpo will end 8 April. The graduates of this school will be the nucleus for R&U effort which will eventually cover all posts, camps and stations of the Korean Army. 8. Dissidents: a. Four (4) enlisted men deserted from the North Korean Army and turned in to the South Korean authorities, bringing with them 3 Mossin rifles and 1 PPHS sub-machine gun. DECLASSIFIED Authority NND 620955 Weekly Activities, KMAG 7 Apr 49 b. Personnel in the Korean Army suspected of leftist activities who have not been apprehended: 108 officers, 560 enlisted men. The degree of suspicion of this group varies from slight to great. All suspects are under surveillance and will be picked up if and when their case warrants. 9. Operations: a. 38th Parallel: 12 incidents reported during period, with following results: Enemy: KIA 5 KA: KIA 0; [illegible] b. South Korea: There were 32 incidents reported in the interior of South Korea during the period with the following results: Enemy: KIA 195; POW 29 KA: KIA 9; WIA 14 [illegible] c. Cheju Do: 4 incidents reported on Cheju Do during period, with following results: Enemy: KIA 50; POW 95 KA: KIA 0; POW 0 d. Operations in general: (1) Operations in all areas of South Korea are showing a great improvement. Friendly casualties and loss of arms and equipment is almost negligible. Factors which contribute to this success are: increased efficiency through training, better organization and command, increased signal communications, establishment and proper use of Central Intelligence systems, and equally as important, a better knowledge by the leaders of the terrain over which they are operating. 10. KA Strength: 2935 Off; 65,066 EM; 1579 Cadets; Total: 69,580. 11. Reserve Corps: a. On 8 April, a parade will be held by the 101st Reserve Regiment in Seoul. Ceremonies at the Seoul Stadium DECLASSIFIED Authority NND 620855 2 Weekly Activities, KMAG 7 Apr 49 will include presentation of the Regimental colors by the President, Rhee Syngman. b. Reserve Strength: 118 Off; 1030 Cadets; 17,438 EM; Total 18,586. KOREAN NAVY 12. Korean Navy continues active patrolling around the island of Cheju Do and the close in islands off the southern tip of Korea. Strength: 399 Off; 265 Mid'n; 4843 EM; Total 5,507.
