ARMED FORCES a. North Korean Constabulary Attack South of Parallel On 17 June 50 to 60 North Korean Constabularymen came south of the parallel about 200 yards, in the vicinity of (919.3-1693.8), and chased farmers from their rice paddies. The farmers notified the South Korean police, who drove the NKC back across the parallel. Seventy-five South Korean police were committed and fired approximately 1000 rounds of ammunition. The NKC, using machine guns and Japanese rifle, fired approximately 1000 rounds. No casualties were reported. (7th Div Flash Report. B-3) b. South Korean Wounded by North Korean Constabularymen At 171730 June a 6 man patrol, all members of the UNITED YOUNG MEN'S PARTY, was fired on at (916.2-1696.6) by North Korean Constabularymen located north of the parallel at (918.3-1697.1). One of the UYMP members was wounded. An estimated 60 NKC were involved in the incident. (7th Div Flash Rpt. Police Report) 2. POLITICAL ACTIVITIES Negative 3. CIVIL UNREST a. Village Office Attacked in CHOLLA-NAMDO At 130230 June a mob attacked a myun office in ANYANG Gun (996-2290), killed the official on duty and confiscated records, a printing machine and a radio. At 1630 hours the police discovered four of the attackers hiding in CHANG HUNG (990-1285). While making arrests the police killed two of the attackers. All the stolen goods were recovered. (Police Report) b. Police Disperse Mob in KYONGSANG-PUKTO On 12 June the police were dispatched to the mountains in the vicinity of HYUN BONG Myun (1190-1480) to disperse a mob. A 30 minute fight followed in which nine of the mob were killed and two were captured. The police confiscated 32 Japanese rifles, one shot gun, rifle and shot gun ammunition, two sticks of dynamite and 200 dynamite caps. (Police Report) c. Police Box Attacked in CHOLLA-NAMDO On 15 June the PUNKUP (950-1358) police box was attacked by a mob of 20 communists. Two policemen on duty were wounded. Rightist Home Attacked in KYONGSANG-PUKTO On 15 June five rioters attacked a rightist home in KANGSU Myun (1218-1437). A visitor, a member of the UNITED YOUNG MEN'S PARTY was shot and killed. (Police Report) e. Constabulary Action on CHEJU-DO Recent Constabulary action in the round up of raiders on CHEJU-DO resulted in four raiders being killed and 53 prisoners being captured. In this action the Constabulary also confiscated approximately two tons of miscellaneous supplies. (MG Report. B-2) f. CHEJU-DO Constabulary Commander Assassinated PAK Chin Kyung, Commanding Officer of the 11th Constabulary Regiment on CHEJU-DO, was murdered while asleep at 180315 June. (MG Report.
