조선민족청년단 제주도지부 학생부가 삐라를 살포했다. 삐라에는, '미제국주의'
를 비난하는 내용과 '미제국주의의 앞잡이' 조선민족청년단의 진면목이 이제야 폭로되었다는 내용의 글이 실려 있었다. 또한 삐라에서 작성자들은, 조선민족청 년단 학생부를 해체할 것이며 자신들의 과거의 잘못에 대한 용서를 요청했다. (방 첩대 정보요약보고, 5월 14일자)

(1) 5월 16일 오후 3시 무장대 80여 명이 수산리(945-1148)를 공격했다. 마을로 급파된 경찰 20여 명이 공격을 물리치고 무장대 1명을 죽였다. (미군정보고, B-2)
(2) 5월 16일 오등리(954-1146)와 오라리(951-1149)에서 경비대는 작전을 벌여 무장대 1명을 사살하고 169명을 포로로 잡았다. (미군정보고, B-2)

a. "Struggling Committee" Organized by Anti-Election
Parties
On 09 May a meeting was held to organize a provincial branch of the "Struggling Committee for the Unification of North and South KOREA". In attendance at the meeting were 24 representatives of seven political parties: KOREAN INDEPENDENCE
PARTY, THREE PRINCIPLE (THREE EQUALITIES) YOUTH ALLIANCE, DEMOCRATIC INDEPENDENCE PARTY, KOREAN YOUNG MEN'S ASSOCIATION for NATIONAL CONSTRUCTION, INDEPENDENT LABORERS AND FARMERS
PARTY, LABORING PEOPLES PARTY and the MASSES PARTY.
An address was made commending the North-South political leaders' conference as the first successful attempt to establish a unified KOREA, condemning a separate government and calling for unceasing opposition to any action which will prevent unification. (CIC S/I, 17 May. B-2)
COMMENT: Of the parties represented at this meeting the KOREAN INDEPENDENCE PARTY, DEMOCRATIC INDEPENDENCE PARTY, THREE PRINCIPLE YOUTH ALLIANCE, LABORING PEOPLE'S PARTY and the
KOREAN YOUNG MEN'S ASSOCIATION for NATIONAL CONSTRUCTION were all signatories of the North-South Conference declaration of
23 April which was addressed to the governments of the United
States and the U.S.S.R. calling for simultaneous wi[illegible]drawal of all occupation troops and presenting an unqualified opposition to the 10 May elections.
b. Communists Infiltrate Into KOREAN NATIONAL YOUTH CORPS
Approximately 40 members of a branch of the KOREAN
NATIONAL YOUTH CORPS in SEOUL are also reportedly members of the communist KOREAN DEMOCRATIC PATRIOTIC YOUNG MEN'S ASSOCIATION and are preventing members of other political parties from joining the KNYC. (CIC S/I, 14 May. C-3)
c. KOREAN NATIONAL YOUTH Distribute Handbills On CHEJU-DO
Handbills found on CHEJU-DO and signed by the Student
Section of the CHEJU-DO branch of the KOREAN NATIONAL YOUTH
CORPS, denounced "American Imperialism" and stated that the true purpose of the KNYC, "a forerunning dog for American imperialism", is now known. The writers of the handbills stated that the NATIONAL YOUTH Student Section is consequently disbanded and ask forgiveness for their past errors. (CIC S/I

COMMENT: The above two reports indicate that in spite of all efforts and claims, communists have infiltrated into the KOREAN NATIONAL YOUTH CORPS, a SKIG sponsored youth organization theoretically non-partisan.
3. CIVIL UNREST
a. Violence in KYONGSANG-PUKTO
(1) A mob of 100 rioters attacked a police box in
KYONG SAN (1172-1433) at 150230 May. Police dispersed the mob. Police reinforcements were dispatched from the main station, but the mob had sabotaged the road. (Police Report)
(2) A mob of 40 attacked the village of YONG DUK
(1232-1506) at 122300 May but the villagers repelled the attack. Three villagers were wounded, one rioter was wounded and two rioters were arrested. (Police Report)
(3) At 122010 May a bomb was thrown into the house of an election committee chairman in TAEGU. (Police Report)
b. Rightist's Home Attacked in KYONGSANG-NAMDO
One hand grenade and two gasoline bombs were thrown at the home of the Chief of the DAI DONG YOUNG MEN'S PARTY in CHINJU Gun (1107-1356) by three unknown youths, believed to be students. Two broken windows was the only damage.

c. Police Box Burned in CHOLLA-NAMDO
At 160200 May a police box in NAJU Gun (970-1340)
was burned. Two policemen, two youths and one policeman's wife were killed. (CIC P/R #117. A-1)
d. Bombing of Rightists' Homes Continues in SEOUL
(1) At 162140 May a bomb exploded at the home of a member of the GENERAL ALLIANCE of KOREAN YOUNG MEN, damaging the roof of the house. (7th Div Flash Rpt. Police Report)
(2) At 162225 May a bomb exploded beside the home of the chief of the Training Section of the Peace Preservation
Guard. The section chief also received a threatening letter.

(3) At 161100 May a bomb exploded behind the MAL

e. Rioting Continues on CHEJU-DO
(1) At 161500 May a mob of 80 raiders attacked the village of SUSAN-RI (945-1148). 20 policemen who were dispatched to the village, broke up the riot and killed one of the raiders. (MG Report B-2)
(2) On 16 May Constabulary operations in the village of O-DUNGNI (954-1146) and OSA-RI (951-1149) resulted in one raider being killed and 169 prisoners taken. (MG Report. B-2)
f. Korean Beats Chinese
On 12 May a member of the UNITED YOUNG MEN'S PARTY in CHONGJU (1040-1530) attacked a Chinese National with a club and shouted, "We can beat all the Chinese now." (CIC

g. Students Return to Schools in KYONGSANG-PUKTO
Practically 100% of the students on anti-election strike have returned to school in TAEGU. The Technical Middle school in KYONGJU (1210-1430), the only school outside of
TAEGU to report a strike, now reports that most of the students have returned to their studies. Because of their communist anti-election agitation 14 primary school teachers in TAEGU have been discharged. (CIC P/R #117. A-1)
h. Communists Organize Taxi Drivers
Communists are organizing cells among taxi drivers, who are to serve as informants during normal activities and in the event of riots are to report to a pre-determined rendezvous and be available to furnish transportation for communist mobs.

Korean Coast Guard investigated 501 vessels in Korean waters.
