Rightist Killed in KANGWON-DO At 180300 May communists attacked a rightist home near UTCHIN (1234.0-1576.6), killed the occupant and stole 20,000 won. (7th Div. Flash rpt- G-3) b. CHEJU-DO Riots (1) At 171930 May the Chairman of the UNITED YOUNG MEN'S PARTY of TAEJONG (920-1120) was kidnapped by 18 raiders and later found shot to death outside TAEJONG. (M.G. rpt B-2) (2) At 160200 May an unknown number of raiders attacked the village of I HO RI (946-1151) and destroyed a bridge. (M.G. rpt-B-2) (3) On 17 May at CHONGSU-RI (924-1128) and CHOSU-RI (923-1131) white flags were found welcoming the PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC and handbills were found announcing the disbandment of the village Protective Association. Rightists Attacked in CHUNGCHONG-NAMDO (1) At 170300 May the election committee chairman of CHOCHIWON (1030-1527) was severely beaten by a mob of five rioters armed with clubs and a Japanese sword. (Police rpt) (2) The CHOCHIWON (1030-1527) leader of the Communal Protective Unit and his wife were severely beaten at 172415 May when attacked by a mob of six rioters. Attempt to Bomb Rightist Home in SEOUL At 172200 May a bomb exploded in front of the home of an election committee chairman in the TERI DONG district in SEOUL. No injuries or damages resulted. The police have arrested two suspects, reportedly belonging to a communist youth organization. (7th Div Flash rpt - C-3) e. Homemade Bomb Construction Examination of two homemade bombs, revealed that: (1) Bomb #1 consisted of a beer can with an explosive charge of one-half stick of U.S. dynamite, a dynamite cap detonator and was filled with metal fragments (metal looked like shell fragments) for shrapnel. (2) Bomb #2 consisted of a Japanese beer can filled with a weak lye cleaning compound. No explosive or detonator was included. (7th Div. Ordnance) 4.
