유엔조선임시위원단과 중앙선거위원회의 동의하에 본관은 남조선 선거일을 1948년 5월 9일(일요일) 대신 1948년 5월 10일(월요일)로 결정했음을 알린다.
선거일을 이렇게 하루 변경한 것은 5월 9일 정오에 개기일식이 일어나기 때문이 다. 이는 최초 5월 9일로 발표할 때 고려되지 않은 사실이다.

SPECIAL PRESS RELEASE
STATEMENT BY LIEUTENANT GENERAL JOHN R. HODGE
With the concurrence of the United Nations Temporary
Commission on Korea and the National Election Committee, I hereby announce that the date of elections in South Korea will be Monday, 10 May 1948 instead of Sunday, 9 May 1948.
This one day change in the election date is being made because of the occurence of the natural phenomenon of a total eclipse of the sun in this area mid-day on 9 May, which fact did not enter into consideration when the date of 9 May was originally announced.
