I have received the translation of the order to the
Korean Army and Navy, dated 26 January, which directed a campaign in cleaning-up of Communists and the movement of one additional battalion to Cheju for reinforcement purposes.
This information is gratefully received and is connotative of excellent top-level thinking, in that you have kept your
Advisors informed of your actions and have given them an insight into your thinking. Projected plans of your office are of great interest to me and to the Advisors, and many discrepancies may be avoided if our thinking is parallel and well-coordinated. One large step is being made in fusing efforts of the Americans with results of the Korean Armed Forces when the Korean top-level keeps the
American top-level informed.
Thank you for your cooperation in furnishing pertinent information to this office, and I sincerely hope you will continue to forward any information which you consider of interest to us. We are vitally interested in you, your
Army and Navy, and in the functioning of your staffs; and you lend us much aid in keeping us abreast of the existing situation. Such excellent response, as cited above, is highly commendable and gratifying to me.
