2. 정치 활동 이승만 대통령 암살 시도 서울 경찰(the Seoul Police)은, 10월 18일 오후 8시 30분 이승만 대통령에 대한 암살시도가 있었을 것이라는 보고를 받았다. 경찰이 수사에 나서 암살 미수범과 공범 2명이 파악됐지만 그들은 달아났다.
10월 19일 경찰이 수색한 결과 이승만 자택 인근 하수구에서 25파운드짜리 다이너마이트 3개가 발견됐다. 이 대통령이 탄 차량이 지나갈 때 폭발하도록 설치돼 있었다.

이 대통령이 차를 타고 접근하면 이를 지켜보던 사람이 신호를 보내고, 이를 받은 사람이 다시 기폭장치를 가진 사람에게 신호를 보내는 방식이었다. (방첩대 긴급보고. B-2)

c. 미확인 조직들의 테러
(1) 전라남도 폭동 발발 10월 19일 오후 9시에서 20일 오후 8시 사이 국방경비대원 40명이 여수(1070-1300)에서 반란을 일으켜 군수창고를 점거했다. 주민들도 반란을 일으켜 이들과 합세한 뒤 여수 경찰과 철도경찰을 공격했다. 피해 상황은 확인되지 않고 있다. 여수와 광주(990-1350)를 잇는 통신선은 절단됐다. 반란을 일으킨 경비대원들은 10월 20일 오전 8시 22분 현재 여수 기차역을 점거한 뒤 화물열차를 통
제하고 순천(1040-1320)을 향해 이동했다. 같은 날 오전 9시 30분 경비대원 300~400명이 기차를 타고 순천에 도착해 기차역을 공격했다.
20일 오전 8시 22분 보고에 따르면 미송리 경찰지서가 경비대원의 공격을 받았다. (임시군사고문단 긴급보고. B-2).

Attempted Assassination of President RHEE
A report was received by the Seoul police at approximately
182030 October that an attempt would be made to assassinate President
RHEE. Detectives investigated and the would-be assassin and two accomplices were seen but escaped.
As a result of a search of the area by the police on 19 October,
3 twenty-five pound charges of dynamite were found in the sewer in vicinity of the President's home. The charges were to be set off by an electric detonator as President RHEE passed in his car.
The diagram below shows the plan of the assassins.
When the observer saw President RHEE approaching in his car he was to signal the relay man who in turn would signal the man at the detonator. (CIC Flash Report. B-2)

(1) Riot Breaks Out In CHOLLA-NAMDO
Between 192100 and 200200 October 40 constabularymen in YOSU (1070-1300) mutinied and occupied the Ordnance warehouse. Civilians also rioted in YOSU and the two forces, civilian and military, combined in action against the YOSU police and railroad police. The number of casualties are unknown. Communication between YOSU and KWANGJU (990-1350) were cut. Constabulary mutineers occupied the YOSU railroad station, commandeered a freight train and were moving toward SUNCHON (1040-1320) as of 200822 October. At 200930 October three to four hundred constabularymen arrived at SUNCHON on 5 railroad cars and attacked the SUNCHON railroad station.
A report was received at 200822 October that the MISUNG NI (1030-1360) police box had been attacked by constabularymen. (PMAG Flash Reports. B-2)
A report received at 200445 October stated that 700 constabulary had attacked the YOSU police. (PMAG Flash Report. F-6)
(2) Rightist Killed In KYONGSANG-NAMDO
At 182200 October a rightist was killed in his home in ULSANG Gun (1230-1414).
At 182240 October a myun chief of ULSANG Gun was shot and killed by a group composed of 3 men and 2 women. (CIC Flash Report. B-2)

U. S. Communications Sabotaged
All telephone and teletype communications between SEOUL and INCHON (960-1630) were disrupted at approximately 192130 October as a result of the main cable having been cut in the vicinity of SOSA (980-1634). (CIC Flash Report. B-2)
COMMENT: Emergency high frequency telephone circuits were immediately established and will be available until the resumation of normal service.
