3. CIVIL UNREST
a. Handbills Distributed in TAEGU
A translation of handbills distributed on 19 June in the TAEGU City Hall states:
(1) "We demand the immediate release of the patriotic officers of the Provincial Government who are under arrest without reason!
(2) Remove the Police Force and the "American Dogs" who arrested the Patriotic Officers!
(3) Remove the Officers and RHEE Syngman who sell our country to the United States!
(4) Why does the United States Army remain in Korea while the Russian Army leaves? Retire as the Russian Army does!" (CIC S/I, 23 June. F-6)
COMMENT: This handbill attack, having been issued subsequent to the recent arrests of more than 100 alleged communists in the TAEGU City and KYONGSANG-PUKTO Provincial Governments, indicates that the police allegations had considerable foundations in fact.
b. Communists Threaten Judges in TAEGU
Members of the SOUTH KOREA LABOR PARTY in TAEGU have stated that if the TAEGU provincial government officials recently arrested are given heavy sentences the judges will be assassinated. (CIC S/I, 23 June. C-4)
