G-2 PERIODIC REPORT From: 040800I May 48 To : 050800I May 48 7th Inf Div SEOUL, KOREA 997.4-1638.8 No. 105 050930I May 1948 1. OPERATIONAL INTELLIGENCE. a. Russian Activity. Bridge Completed: 32nd Inf, "C" Co, (1020.0-1683.5) reported that at 0845 hours, 4 May, a bridge was observed to have been completed at (1023.7-1697.8). From the vantage point, the structure appeared to be made of steel and reinforced concrete, strong enough to carry a two and one-half (2½) ton truck. (B-2) 2. COUNTER INTELLIGENCE. a. Sabotage. CPX Sabotaged (Momentarily): The large, ten (10) pair, rubber cable, containing the telephone and teletype circuits between the regular DENVER (7th Div) switchboard and the temporary DENVER "X" switchboard, was severed at 2040 hours, 4 May, in the vicinity of the Army Hostess House on Hourglass Road, Camp SOBINGGO, SEOUL. The Division Signal Officer reported the cut was apparently made with an axe. Cable communications were restored at 2125 hours, 4 May. (A-1) COMMENT: The forward echelon, 7th Inf Div Hqs was in the field on an overnight problem. This cable was just a temporary line connecting the main switchboard to the field installation. The cutting of this cable failed to disrupt the "problem", as the radio continued to function without interruption. b. Security. (1) Someone Hunting Owls; No Doubt: 31st Inf reported that at 2145 hours, 3 May, three (3) shots were heard by the guard behind the 7th Div Rifle Range, SEOUL. (B-2) (2) Korean Caught Breaking Into Boxcar: 31st Inf reported that at 0045 hours, 4 May, one (1) Korean was apprehended while trying to force open a boxcar at the XXIV Corps warehouse siding. (C-2) COMMENT: The 31st Inf guards in this area have been es- pecially vigilant, which should reduce the number of incidents in the future. (Re: Par 2b(1), P/R #98, 27 April) 3. CIVIL RELATIONS - None reported. 4. SUMMARY OF INTELLIGENCE IN ADJACENT AREAS. a. CHEJU DO Situation Report: SEOUL, Korea, 2 May - (UP) - "Well organized guerillas battled their way into a village on American-occupied CHEJU Island and held it for three (3) hours today before they were beaten RESTRICTED DECLASSIFIED Authority NND 745070 RESTRICTED back by Korean Security Forces. U.S. Army observation planes reported after a flight over the island that three (3) villages were threatened by guerilla bands, believed led by Communists who fostered recent riots and isolated attacks on CHEJU Police Stations. Korean Police reinforcements who were rushed to CHEJU last week described today's attacks as the beginning of full-scale guerilla warfare. They said the raiders murdered at least seven (7) persons, four (4) of them women. 5. MISCELLANEOUS. a. Train Movements: (1) U.S. mail train will leave SEOUL at 0930 hours, 6 May, for CHIM DONG, the exchange point. (2) U.S. liaison train will depart SEOUL for PYONGYANG at 0900 hours, 6 May.
