(C-3) 4. 인접 지역 정보 요약 a. 6사단 지역에서 심각한 문제 발생 : (1) 제주도에서 계속되는 폭동 : 4월 24일 경찰이 좌익 선동가로 의심되는 집을 급습하는 동안 미국제 반자동 M-1 소총으로 무장한 국방경비대가 마을을 포위했다. 5시간 반 동안 약 60명이 체포됐다. 믿을 만한 정보에 따르면 4월 2일 이후 제주도에서 약 46명이 목숨을 잃었다. (UP통신 보도) (2) 제6사단 지역 사보타주 : (제6사단 보고) 제주읍(951-1151) - 48년 4월 19일 제주읍의 동서와 남쪽 지역을 잇는 상업 용, 군사용 전화선이 잘리고 전봇대가 절단됐다. 제주읍과 제주공항을 연결하는 선을 수리하던 한 경찰관이 신원불상자로부터 총격을 받았고, 경찰이 응사했다. 사상자는 보고되지 않았다.
Restricted G-2 PERIODIC REPORT From: 260800I Apr 48 To : 270800I Apr 48 7th Inf Div SEOUL, KOREA 997.4-1638.8 No. 98 271040I Apr 1948 Maps: KOREA 1/50,000 & 1/250,000 1. OPERATIONAL INTELLIGENCE. a. Russian Activity. Do They Plan To Stay? 32nd Inf reported that the Russian troops at CHIM DONG (946.6-1697.3) were observed on 26 April planting shrubbery around their installation. Also, on the same day, most of the Soviets engaged in target practice. (F-2) b. Entrenchments. New Digging Or Company Punishment? 31st Inf, 2nd Bn (1069.6-1682.9) reported that three (3) Russian soldiers were observed digging a dugout at (1063.2- 1696.9) at 1100 hours, 25 April. (B-2) c. Refugee Statements. R.T.C. Established: 32nd Inf, OP #14 (985.9-1695.0) reported that a refugee IN, Don Fe stated that there were five hundred (500) North Korean Constabulary recruits with five (5) Russians at ŶYONCHON (1007.4-1708.5), engaged in training. The training program consists of P.T., setting up of road blocks and CPs, and squad tactics. (F-3) 2. COUNTER INTELLIGENCE. a. Espionage. Korean Seeking Troop Strength Apprehended: 32nd Inf, "F" Co (919.4-1685.7) reported that a Korean, CHANG, Sun Men, was caught near the "F" Co fence in the late afternoon of 23 April, attempting to secure information concerning U.S. troop and South Korean Police strengths. This would be follower in the footsteps of Undercover Agent X-9 has been turned over to other intelligence agencies for further investigation. (B-2) b. Security. (1) Korean Agitator Shot by U.S. Sentry: 31st Inf reported that at approximately 1930-1940 hours, 26 April, a number of Koreans, standing on the bridge overlooking the SEOUL PX Warehouse, were again throwing rocks at the 31st Inf sentinel and using foul language. The guard at Post #33, on observing a Korean throwing a rock, fired one (1) round at him. A medium size Korean crowd gathered. Lt Col BODNER and Capt REESE arrived on the scene to investigate. It was determined that Restricted DECLASSIFIED Authority NND 745070 Restricted PARK, Sang Myun, age approximately 19, had been hit. He was taken to the Red Cross Hospital where he died, at 2005 hours. The crowd was quickly dispersed by 31st Inf and 31st FA (MP) En men. One (1) other Korean was apprehended by the 31st Inf prior to the shooting. He is being detained by the 31st Inf for interrogation by 7th Inf Div MID. This Korean had ¥5,000 in ¥100 notes on his person. (2) Watch Dog Foils Robbery: 31st Inf, 2nd Bn (1069.6-1682.9) reported that at 2130 hours, 25 April, two (2) unidentified persons attempted to enter the Ammunition Storage area (1067.9-1681.4) but a watch dog alerted the guards who fired five (5) rounds at the intruders with unknown results. (B-2) 3. CIVIL RELATIONS. a. Civil Disturbances. Harrassment Reports Continue: Various intelligence agencies reported on 26 April that police stations and boxes in SEOUL would be attacked by individuals, believed to be from North Korea, commencing at 2300 hours. These attackers were supposed to operate in groups of five (5) to twelve (12) persons. The Division took the usual standard precautions, but as the period closed, no reports of any violence had be received. b. Communists Plan For Future Riots: (XXIV) Riot plans of the SOUTH KOREA LABOR PARTY are complete, but the actual starting date will not be given to the cells until just before the time to go into action. In the meantime, every effort is being made to drew police and pro-Japanese into the party; all who join will be forgiven their past mistakes. (C-3) 4. SUMMARY OF INTELLIGENCE IN ADJACENT AREAS. - a. Serious Trouble in 6th Division Zone: (1) Riots Continue On CHEJU DO: Korean Constabulary Troops, armed with American Garand M-1 rifles, surrounded the strife-torn town of CHEJU on 24 April, while South Korean Police raided the homes of suspected leftist agitators. Approximately sixty (60) arrests were made during the five and one-half (5½) hour period. According to reliable sources there have been approximately forty six (46) deaths on the island since 2 April. (UP Press Report) (2) Sabotage in 6th Division Zone: (6th Div report) CHEJU-UP (951-1151) - On 19 April 48, commercial and military telephone lines and telephone poles leading EAST, WEST and SOUTH of CHEJU-UP were cut. A police detail repairing line between CHEJU-UP and CHEJU-DO Airstrip (950-1151) was fired upon intermittently by unknown persons. Police returned the fire. No casualties reported. (B-2) 5. MISCELLANEOUS. a. Train Movement: Russian northbound train is scheduled to depart SEOUL Restricted -2- DECLASSIFIED Authority NND 745070 Restricted for PYONGYANG at 1300 hours, 27 April. This train was originally scheduled to depart Saturday, 24 April, but the manifest was not prepared, so northbound movement was cancelled. This headquarters was not informed until 1500 hours, a seven (7) hour lapse, during which time the 32nd Inf had both an Officer and Russian speaking Enlisted Man standing by. b. More Flares In SEOUL: The 7th MP Platoon and the 707th Ordnance Co both reported that white, or amber, lights were observed on the SOUTH slope of NAM SAM Mountain during the period 2400 hours, 26 April-0040 hours, 27 April. According to observers, these lights were stationary, with a vertical beam.
