한국군 제1여단 지역에서 게릴라전을 두 달 동안 익힌 특공대대가 1월 29일 지리산을 향해 수원을 떠났다. 이 특공대대는 지리산 지역에 집결해 있는 게릴라를 상대로 작전을 벌일 예정이다. 2개 중대는 제1여단에서 차출했고, 다른 2개 중대는 주민 중에서 직접 모병했다.
같은 날 한국군 사령부는 제8연대 제5대대가 제주도에서의 임무 수행을 위해 원주를 떠났다고 발표했다.
논평 : 제주도와 지리산 지역은 계속적으로 게릴라 활동의 주요 무대로 존재하고 있다. 반체제자들을 무찌르기 위한 작전에 2개 대대를 추가로 급파한 것은 한국군 사령부가 제주 도민들의 활동과 지리산 지역 부대의 움직임을 매우 심각하게 보고 있음을 말해주는 것이다.

b. Commando Battalion Sent Into Action
A commando battalion, trained for 2 months in the art of guerrilla fighting in the KA 1st Brigade area, departed SUWON (1000-1610) on 29 January for the CHIRI-San (1070-1370) area where it will operate against the concentration of rebels in that region.
Two companies of the organization were selected from 1st Brigade troops, and the other 2 companies were recruited directly from civilian life.
On the same day the 5th battalion of the 8th Regiment loft WONJU (1100-1610) for duty on CHEJU-DO, it was announced by KA Headquarters.
COMMENT: CHEJU-DO and the CHIRI-San area continue to be the primary areas of guerrilla activity. The dispatching of 2 more battalions for operations against dissidents is indicative of the seriousness with which KA Headquarters views the activities of the islanders on CHEJU-DO and the brigands in the CHIRI-San area.
