ARMED FORCES Border Violations By North Korean Constabularymen (Delayed Reports) At 131500 November 5 North Korean Constabularymen crossed the parallel at NANCHON-RI (825-1698), entered the village of KUCHON DONG (825-1697) and fired an unknown number of rounds at members of the UNITED YOUNG MEN'S PARTY. One UYMP member was wounded. The North Korean Constabularyman withdrew north of the parallel after 10 minutes of firing. At 131800 5 North Korean Constabularymen again entered the village of KUCHON DONG. South Korean police fired at the NKC who withdrew north of the parallel without returning the fire. (CIC P/R #269. B-3) 2. POLITICAL ACTIVITIES Negative 3. CIVIL UNREST a. Activities on CHEJU-Do On 16 November an estimated 100 homes, including 6 homes of policemen, were destroyed by fire at MUHYONG NI (946-1148). (C-3) On 18 November a truck loaded with 5 Constabulary was ambushed in the vicinity of FUKCHON NI (969-1156) by an unknown number of raiders. Two Constabularymen were killed and 2 were wounded. (Constabulary Report) On 19 November 50 raiders, 20 of whom were armed, attacked the TAESUNG (926-1120) police box. The police sustained no casualties. Three raiders were killed and 3 homes were burned. (Police Report) b. Terrorism In KYONGSANG-NAMDO On 15 November approximately 50 raiders entered the village of DO KUI DONG (1224-1514). The raiders kidnapped 1 civilian, took him to a nearby mountain and killed him. The local police were notified and attacked the raiders. Six of the raiders were killed. (Police Report) c. Unauthorized Persons Pose As Police In KYONGSANG-PUKTO Recently unauthorized persons have appeared throughout KYONGSANGPUKTO dressed in police uniforms. In some cases civilians have been beaten by these impostors. The chief of the TAEGU police has made a public statement warning the people of this situation. (Police Report) d. Rightist Home Attacked In CHUNGCHONG-NAMDO At 221940 November the home of a leader of the GENERAL ALLIANCE of KOREAN YOUNG MEN in CHONGJU (1049-1525) was entered by an unidentified man who dropped a hand grenade under the living room table and ran. Two persons were wounded.
