Kuyre Area - 23 uniformed rebels (14th Regt) killed; 20 captured; 10 armed civilians captured; 4 carbines and 20 M-1 recovered. 2. Taegu Area - 50 known Communists and 350 suspects apprehended; being turned over to Korean authorities; Major Mowitz is PMAG senior officer there; 50 Communists got into hills; 1 strong Bn, 7th Regt now there; Bn of 6th Regt formerly garrisoned there moving back to Taegu from Kwangju combat area; two companies from Pusan arrived Taegu at 2215 2 Nov; these are being returned Pusan today; believe disturbance quelled in Taegu. 3. Seoul Area - All Brigade Comdrs (less 5th Brig) and DND Staff in meeting here yesterday were in conference with the Defense Minister, morning of 2 Nov; at 1500 I discussed items mentioned in my note to Lee Bum Suk (copy to G-3, 2 Nov); special tightening-up all units throughout S Korea in preparation for any eventuality; students and school troops ROTC armed and organized into Bn of 6 companies, total 1000; Brig COs returned to units last last evening. 4. Recent Reports a. 50 rebels from 4th Regt holed up at NAJU 972-1336; 2 loyal companies moving toward this. b. 17 rebels captured Posong yesterday. c. 8 Constab, 12 police reported killed Taegu. d. Police Chejudo to take over government nipped; 75 prisoners; many road blocks constructed; 5 bodies of leftists found washed ashore; telephone poles being cut down; another Constabulary operation inflicted, many casualties in rebels with 135 killed. 5.
