(Advisability of returning 2 Battalions now at Cheju Do to mainland for winter, as quarters for but 1 Battalion are available. Movement may take place in October if no incident occurs. 1,000 police reported to have been installed there in small towns recently. 2. Housing for PMAG finally determined as follows: Original area (D) in 7th Division and a small group in Yong Dong Po for Special Troops officers whose work will be mainly in that area. 3. Organization of Department of Internal Security is currently subject of long discussions with Minister of National Defense, who has submitted plans which appear to be radical in extreme and probably unworkable. 4. Second of two tours of Staff of KG as guests of Staff of 7th Division completed during week. Excellent from all angles. 5. Large supply of maps received and distributed to units. 6. Two Cannon schools started 20 August as scheduled. 7. 1,750 Korean-English dictionaries distributed. 8. Bulk of range firing will be completed 12 September. Unit training starts at end of firing. 9. Radio stations at all 5 Brigades now in full-time operation. Stations as follows: Seoul, Susaik, Taejon, Pusan, Kwangju. Regiments each have not operating. 3 local stations also on Cheju Do. Officers, men and equipment to be returned to units and school discontinued. All regimental commanders and some of staff attending termination demonstrations and graduation. 13. 30 new medical officers left 4 September for OTS for 3 weeks indoctrination. 14. Team from DIS (American-Korean) inspected 4th Brigade and 8th Regiment. 15. Mixed team planned for inspection of 14th Regiment at Yosu and 11th Regiment at Suwon next week. 16. Considering starting Infantry School of about 9 months' course next year, using 6 officers now at Ft. Benning as nucleus. Same for small Engineer School. 17. Plans nearly ready to start formation of a provisional reserve of 13 regiments. These regiments to be mothered by 13 regular regiments. Without a law authorizing same, it is believed that the men can be enrolled and some officers chosen. Later, with approval of assembly, officers may be instructed. No expense to be involved until approved by law. 18. All Senior Brigade Advisors met here this week. Principal subject was living conditions of PMAG American Advisors now that MG installations and troops are leaving certain towns. Plan to centralize Brigade groups at each Brigade Hq. locality for simplicity of supply and advisors' work out to units. Cheju Do advisors will live at Kwangju and move to Cheju Do by boat, remaining there four work days. Rooms and houses at outlying localities being retained. Rations to be carried. 19. Messenger system of DIS now operating for 1 month as follows: Trained Korean messenger leaves PUSAN and SEOUL daily. Is met at stations on route by messengers from units. 20. G-2 Advisor, with counterpart, made inspection of stations and units along 38th parallel during week. Classification lowered to W. L.
