브라운 대령에게 보내는 비망록.
일요일 귀관의 요청에 따라 우리가 파견하는 장교들에게 기대하고 있는 임무에 대하여 귀관에게 알리고자 한다.
오늘 우리는 최(경록) 중령을 11연대의 연대장으로, 송(요찬) 소령을 부연대장으로 파견하였다. 최 중령은 이곳의 모든 지휘관으로부터 선택되었으며 본인 역 시 그를 좋아하며, 그의 이력도 훌륭한 것 같다. 송 소령은 강인하며 용감한 사람 이라고 본인은 이해한다. 우리는 감찰관을 보내지 않을 것이다. 왜냐하면, 송 소 령은 우리가 보유하고 있는 최상의 장교이며 귀관은 그를 감찰관으로 활용할 수 있다.
수요일 부관이 돌아오는데, 그 대대장이 같은 비행기에 동승할 것으로 예상한 다.
본인은 귀관이 지난번 보고한 내용에 대응해 조치를 취하고 있다. 그러나, 본인이 계획하고 있는 조직의 효과는 당분간 귀관의 의도대로 느껴지지 않을 것이다.
화요일 여기서 박 대령의 장례식이 열릴 것이다. 그의 시신은 어제 화장했다.

MEMORANDUM TO COLONEL BROWN:
It just occurs to me that you should be informed of the duties we expect of the Officers we are sending in view of your request on Sunday.
Today, we sent Lt Col Chai to be Regimental Commander of the 11th and Major Song to be the Exec. Col Chai was chosen by all the heads here, and I like his appearance; his background seems to be excellent.
I understand that Song is a strong man and has a record of being ruthless. We are not sending an Inspector because this boy, Song, is the best we have and you can use him as such.
On Wednesday, the Adjutant will return and I expect the Battalion
Commander for your 2nd Battalion will be on that same plane.
I am taking steps to counter what you reported the other day, but the effect of the organization I am planning will not be felt in your direction for some time.
The funeral of Colonel Pak will be held on Tuesday here. His body was cremated yesterday.
I expect I will be seeing you by the end of this week, so take care of yourself. Needless to say, this new man must take steps to protect himself, also.
I am still waiting for a report on your fishing expeditions.
