ARMED FORCES Negative 2. POLITICAL ACTIVITIES Negative 3. CIVIL UNREST a. Terrorism in CHOLLA-PUKTO On 18 June a mob of 10 rioters attacked and killed a civilian and injured members of the family at his home in NAMWUN Gun (1038-1382). The rioters then burned the house and pillaged household goods. (Police Report) b. Civilians Killed in CHOLLA-NAMDO On 18 June in POSONG Gun (1008-1304) a civilian and his son were beaten to death by a mob. (Police Report) c. Police and Constabulary Action On CHEJU-DO (1) On 18 June CHEJU-DO police confiscated a small amount of Japanese ammunition, dynamite, black powder and Japanese helmets in the village of KWIDONG (928-1144). (MG Report. B-2) (2) On 18 June Constabulary action resulted in the capture of 4 SOUTH KOREA LABOR PARTY members near WAHUL LI (963-1151). Troops operating in the vicinity of the KUN AK Mountains (949-1144) captured 7 prisoners and confiscated 1 Japanese rifle. Food and kitchen utensils were confiscated at a camp site. (MG Report. B-2) d. CHEJU-DO Village And Police Box Attacked (1) On 18 June approximately 20 raiders attacked the village of HAGWI RI (940-1145). One of the raiders was killed. (MG Report. B-2) (2) At 191400 June the police box at MOONUNG HI (915-1123) was attacked by a group of raiders. (MG Report. B-2) e. Communist "Attacking Parties" Temporarily Withhold Action in CHOLLA-NAMDO It is reported that between the period 12 June to 19 June all groups of the SOUTH KOREA LABOR PARTY "Special Attacking Parties" were ordered to cease terroristic and destructive activities. The purpose of this plan is to observe the reaction of the U.S. Occupation Forces while the Russian Forces are withdrawing from North KOREA. During this period the groups will continue training in the mountains in KUM CHEUNG Myun (982-1315). SABOTAGE AND ESPIONAGE Possible Sabotage Attempt Railroad tracks in the Material Yard of the Post Engineer, Camp ASCOM were tampered with on 17 June.
