3급 비밀 제24군단 사령부 1948년 5월 1일 보고 기간: 1948년 4월 23일~1948년 4월 30일 제23호 작전참모부 작전보고 5. 기타 d. 경비대: 제주도에 주둔 중인 제5연대는 보고 기간 동안 해안가를 따라 도로 행군을 3회 실시했다. 경비대는 행군 경로에 있던 모든 마을들을 포위했고, 경찰의 도움을 받아 모든 남성 거주자를 심문했다. 각 마을에서 수상한 인물, 공산주 의자, 무기와 탄약을 수색했다. 무장대에 전해질 예정이었던 것으로 생각되는 50만 엔 상당의 구급품과 약품을 압수했다. 경비대와 경찰의 작전으로 수상한 인물 8명이 체포됐다. 마을에 대한 소규모 게릴라의 공격이 계속되고 있다. 도로 방책이 보고됐고, 제 주도 활주로에서 서쪽으로 3~5마일 떨어진 외도리와 하귀리에서 통신선이 파괴 됐다. 1948년 4월 29일, 모든 미국인 부양가족이 제주도에서 소개됐다. 작전참모 앤드류 타이센(ANDREW C. LOCATION OF TROOPS No major change. 2. WEATHER AND VISIBILITY Cool and cloudy. Favorable to ground operations. 3. OPERATIONS FOR THE PERIOD a. 6th Infantry Division: Patrols for intelligence and security were conducted as follows: 1st Infantry Regiment, 5 motorized patrols, 20th Infantry Regiment, 2 motorized patrols; 1st Field Artillery Battalion, 5 motorized patrols. 693 Military and 24371 Civilian Measurement tons were discharged from the port of Pusan during the period. b. 7th Infantry Division: Security Detachment of the 17th Infantry Regiment departed Hour Glass Beach, Tacjon (960.5-1495.6) by rail on 191500 April 1948 closed Onyang (1002-1546) on 202000 April 1948. Patrols for intelligence and security we e conducted as follows: 48th Field Artillery Battalion, 1 motorized patrol; 57th Field Artillery Battalion, 1 motorized patrol; 17th Infantry Regiment, 2 motorized patrols; 31st Infantry Regiment, 27 foot and 3 motorized patrols; 32d Infantry Regiment, 102 foot and 20 motorized patrols. c. Korea Base Command: 11453 Measurement tons were discharged from the port of Inchon during the period. d. 2d Engineer Construction Group: 594th Engineer Dump Truck Company departed Kimpo Air Force Base (981.9-1643.0) by motor on 241300 April 1948 closed Yong Dung Po (990.3-1637.7) on 241500 April 1948. Permanent Change of Station. 4. RESULTS OF OPERATIONS Minor troop displacements were effected. All Major Commands continued normal occupational duties. 5. MISCELLANEOUS a. During the period 211800 April 1948 to 281800 April 1948 the Korean Coast Guard investigated 339 vessels in Korean waters: 7 were arrested operating illegally and sent to port under guard. b. Nippon Maru Arrived Pusan 27 April 1948 with 59 legal and 470 illegal Koreans aboard, departed Pusan 27 April 1948 with 40 Japanese aboard. c. During the period 1592 Koreans crossed the 38° Parallel from North Korea and entered Camps at Kaesong, Uijongbu, Chumunjin and Chunchon. d. Korean Constabulary: 5th Regiment at Cheju-Do conducted 3 road marches along the coast during the period. All Towns along routes of march were enveloped by Constabulary and with the aid of the National Police, all male inhabitants were screened. Search was made in each town for suspicious characters, Communists, weapons and ammunition. Half million Yen worth of first aid supplies and drugs, believed to have been enroute to the attacking groups in hills were seized. 8 Suspicious characters seized as results of Constabulary and police action. Road blocks reported and destroyed Korean Telephone lines in villages, Hwando-Ri and Hakw-Ri, 3 to 5 miles west of Choju Air Strip. All American dependents evacuated from Choju-Do on 29 April 1948.
