NAJU Mutineers Still At Large A group of approximately 30 Constabularymen of Company "E", 4th Regiment that mutinied on 02 November were surrounded in the vicinity of NAJU (972-1336) on the same date. Sometime between 022400 and 030700 November the group escaped and headed toward CHUNG SUNG (980-1370). This group of mutineers was armed with 45 M-1 rifles, 4 carbines, 1 pistol and a box of M-1 ammunition in bandolcers. At 030900 an estimated 40 Constabularymen, believed to be the mutineers, were seen in the vicinity of DU NI (963-1345). (CIC Flash Report. Constabulary Report) b. Constabularymen Raid Home In CHULLA-PUKTO. On 04 November 2 Constabularymen raided a home in DONG CHUNG RI (980-1400) and forced the civilian to prepare food for 40 men. The civilian was then ordered to carry the food to the nearby mountains. In the mountain hideout the civilian observed approximately 60 Constabularymen. After eating, the group warned the civilian that if he reported anything to the police he would be killed, and departed. This group is believed to be the same group who were involved in the revolt in NAJU (970-1330) on 02 November (para a, above). (CIC Flash Report. B-3) c. Raider Activities on CHEJU-DO. On 04 November a motorized police patrol was ambushed between CHEJU City (952-1152) and HAMBACK NI (954-1152) by an unknown number of raiders. No casualties were reported. (A-1) On 04 November 14 prisoners of the Constabulary in CHEJU City (952-1152) overpowered their guards and escaped, stealing 1 carbine. Six of the prisoners were recaptured and the carbine was recovered. A round-up of non-residents and unemployed persons is under way in CHEJU City in an effort to recapture all the escaped prisoners and to arrest all persons who may be connected with the CHEJU Do disturbances. Two constabularymen were found dead in CHEJU City on 05 November. (A-2) On 05 November 500 raiders reportedly attacked and burned the police box and approximately 75 houses in CHUNG MUI NI (941-1120). Air observation revealed that approximately 40 buildings were destroyed by fire. (CIC Flash Report. A-2) Confidential DECLASSIFIED Authority NND 74507 XXIV CORPS G-2 P/R #982 Confidential d. Communist Riot Plans Communist Constabulary personnel and civilian SOUTH KOREA LABOR PARTY members planned to begin riots in INCHON (960-1630) at 042400 November, but because of difference of opinion the riots were postponed. According to later plans the riots will begin at either 052400 or 062400 November. (F-6) The rioters intend to attack the TAI WHA CHUNG transformer station near INCHON and attack and kill police and officials. (F-6) The Constabulary Engineer Company near ASCOM and the KIMPO District Constabulary reportedly plan to cooperate with the INCHON rioters when the uprisings begin. (CIC Flash Report. F-6) 4.
