ARMED FORCES a. Soviet Plane Lands in South KOREA At about 191120 May a Soviet YAK 9 plane landed near YOJU (1060-1610). The pilot set fire to his plane and destroyed it. The pilot stated that he was lost and that he landed when he ran out of gasoline. He is being returned to Soviet control. A short time before the plane landed, a Soviet YAK 9 plane was reported over TAEJON (1040-1490). (7th Div. A-2) b. Unidentified Planes Violate Parallel (1) At 201235 May an unidentified twin-engined plane violated the 38th parallel in the vicinity of (1006.6-1693.1) and then returned to the North. (7th Div Flash Report. B-2) (2) At 201130 May an unidentified four-engine plane was observed from OP #11 (947.8-1690.8) flying south to north, crossed the parallel and disappeared to the north. Telephone Communications Cut In CHOLLA-PUKTO At 190130 May telephone wires and two telephone poles were cut between the police division headquarters in CHONJU (1010-1430) and the substation at MUJU (1064-1455). (Police Report) b. Policeman Killed In KYONGGI-DO On 19 May a policeman on KANG HWA Island (945-1674) was killed with his own gun by two men whom he was attempting to arrest. (CIC F/R #121. Police Report) c. Policeman Shot in SEOUL At 200200 May three rioters shot a SEOUL policeman eight times and took his carbine. (Police Report) d. Village Attacked In KYONGSANG-PUKTO (Delayed Report) At 162400 May a mob of 20 rioters attacked the village of SUN NAE in the vicinity of KYONGJU (1218-1437) and cut down 28 telephone poles. Rioting Continues on CHEJU-DO (Delayed Reports) (1) The village of CHEJU-RI (924-1129) was attacked by 150 raiders at 130700 May. One policeman and six villagers were killed, one villager is unaccounted for and seven villagers were kidnapped. The raiders took food and clothing from the village, burned the police box and 130 houses and escaped into the hills. (CIC P/R #120. B-2) (2) At 141600 May raiders attacked the village of MYONG VOL NI (926-1135), shot the wife of an unsuccessful election candidate and burned his home. (CIC P/R 120. Police Report) (3) At 140400 May 50 raiders attacked the village of SONGMYONG NI (925-1134) and burned the home of a policeman's father. (CIC P/R 120. Police Report) 4.
