밀수로 막대한 이익 - 제주도의 모슬포에 사는 이두옥은 강원도 용청리의 김정제에게 보낸 편지에서, “일본으로 한 번 밀수해 성공만 하면 그 이익은 아주 엄청나기 때문에 적발되어 배와 짐이 몰수되더라도 손해보다는 이익이 큽니다.”라고 쓰고 있다. 이씨는 또한 밀수 상품을 외국으로 실어나르는 일이 성공할 때까지 결코 포기하지 않을 것이라고 덧붙였다. (편지 날짜, 1946년 12월 31일)

(4) Great Profit in Smuggling – LEE, Doo Ok, MOKSERPO, CHEJU-DO, in a letter to KIM, Chong Che of YONGCHERNG-LI, KANGWON-DO, states that the profits obtained from one smuggling trip to JAPAN are so great that they overcome the possibility of confiscation of ship and cargo in case of detection. LEE further states that he will never give up until he succeeds in smuggling goods to foreign countries. (CS#XO/3024, letter dated 31 December 1946).
