A CIC report dated 28 January states that in the past three weeks there has been a tremendous increase in the number of houseboys and servants in the Seventh Division Dependent Housing Area who have resigned for some minor reason or failed to appear for work. One houseboy stated that he had been threatened with bodily harm three times by a Young Mens Organization (name unspecified) if he did not cease working for the Americans.

The Youth League accuses SIN, Woo Kyoon, Chief of the Inspection Office of the following: (1) having night meetings with known Communists; (2) suppressing disclosures of Leftist offenses; (3) trafficking with profiteers; (4) increasing the power of the Communist organization (SEO/3121, letter dated 18 January).

new organization is headed by CM, Hung Saub of the INCH'ON Shin Mun, KO, Il of the TAEJON Il Bo, and LEE, Sun Kun of the KOREA Pacific Press. All three of these men have Leftist tendencies. OM has been previously arrested for printing subversive material.
(2) KWANGJU Chosun Democratic Youth Alliance (LY) Plans March First
Demonstration - KWANGJU CIC reports that the members of the "Chosun Democratic
Youth Alliance" led by LEE, Dong Koon, former chairman of the "Farmers Union", have been very active in the last few weeks and go about shouting "Hurrah for
STALIN" and singing the "Red Flag" song. An informant stated they are planning a demonstration on 01 March and are attempting to get the Rightists to join them. All Rightists organizations are planning anti-trusteeship demonstrations on March first.
(3) Leftist Organization Requests USAMGIK to Purge Government of ProJapanese, National Traitors and Pro-Fascists - HU, Hun, chairman of the South
Korean Labor Party, in a letter to General HODGE, dated 29 January, accuses the handful of "pro-Japanese" of availing themselves of freedom of speech to raise a big voice against the MOSCOW Decision. HU also accuses the Legislative
Assembly, which adopted a resolution against trusteeship, of consisting mostly of pro-Japanese, national traitors, and pro-fascist members who signed the
Communique Number Five only to give themselves a chance to oppose the MOSCOW
Decision and later to usurp the reins of government. The chairman of the South
Korean Labor Party expresses fear that the "freedom of expression" and the
"kindness to all parties" permitted in South KOREA will adversely effect the reopening of the US-USSR Joint Commission.
Comment - There is nothing new in this letter to General HODGE. These accusations against the Right have always been a part of the Left propaganda campaign. It would appear that this letter was sent with the intention of putting on record the awareness of the Communists of the opposition to the
MOSCOW Decision (trusteeship clause in particular) by the Right Wing.
c. Korean Press
(1) For the purpose of showing matters of current public interest in
KOREA, translations have been made of the leading headlines in all major newspapers in SEOUL, and the texts of articles that are considered to be of particular interest. (See Incl #1)
5. SUMMARY OF INTELLIGENCE IN ADJACENT AREAS
Anti-RHEE, Syng Man and KIM, Koo Posters Removed in North KOREA - An interrogation report dated 28 January indicates that the anti-RHEE, Syng Man and KIM, Koo posters and handbills have been removed. Informant states that all school students were mobilized in December 1946 to accomplish this task. Now posters state "Unite All Koreans" instead of "Unite All North Koreans" as they have in the past. (See par 5, P/R #429).
6. MISCELLANEOUS
a. Illegal Possession of Ammunition - A Sixth Division report dated 29
January states that 1,258 rounds of Japanese ammunition were picked up by Military Government from an iron vendor in MASAN1. The ammunition is 280 mm in caliber, 32 inches long, with a rotating band 1½ inches wide and a base detonating fuze. This ammunition was supposed to have been sold to the iron vendor by the Korean Coast Guard. An investigation is being made.
b. Rice Collection - Released on 28 January are the following figures relative to the status of the rice collection program as of 25 January:
CHUNGCHONG-PUKTO (86%) 87% KYONGSANG-NAMDO (89%) 91%
CHUNGCHONG-NAMDO (87%) 87% KYONGGI-DO (76%) 81%
CHOLLA-PUKTO (34.9%) 40% KANGWON-DO (169%) 169%

XXIV CORPS G-2 P/R #445 CONFIDENTIAL
CHOLLA-NAMDO (68%) 80% CHEJU-DO (01%) 01%
KYONGSANG-PUKTO (62%) 63%
For all of South KOREA 73.8% of the entire quota has been collected. This can be compared with 69.5% collected up to 21 January. Figures in parenthesis are those for 21 January.
Comment - Disregarding CHEJU-DO whose quota (5,000 suks) is very low, CHOLLA-PUKTO with the largest quota remains the lowest in percentage collected.
Communist agitation for anti-Military Government sentiment has been centered in this vital province. Increased efforts on the part of both American and
Korean MG officials to overcome the handicap of anti-rice collection propaganda is discernable in the increase of 5.1% in a period of 5 days. (See par 4 /b/
