Dispersed in Southern Provinces: Aggressive action by the Korean Republic's armed forces, from 16-31 Mar, resulted in the dispersal of rebel activities throughout the southern provinces. A majority of the incidents, still occurred in South Cholla Province. Cheju Island rebels were driven into hiding by Korean Army troops, and the period was the quietest the island has known since 1 May 47. Approximately 175 rebels were killed, throughout South Korea, during the period and about six civilians and 24 policemen and soldiers died while combating the rebels. (b)
