신임 미군정 장관이 지난 주 제주도를 방문하는 동안 학교는 휴교되고, 회사는 잠시 문을 닫았다. 장관이 제주읍내를 통과하는 동안 많은 주민들은 정중한 침묵을 지킨 채 서 있었다. 그는 독립 한국을 건설하기 위해서는 서로 협력해야 한다는 취지의 간단한 치사를 했다. 제주도지사 유해진은 짧고 공손하게, 군정장관이 기대하는 전반적인 협력을 얻을 수 있을 것임을 확신한다고 대답했다. (방첩대 정기보고 제704호)

d. Military Governor Visits CHEJU-DO
Schools were dismissed and work was suspended in CHEJU (950-1150) last week during the new military governor's visit to CHEJU-DO Island. Large numbers of people stood in respectful silence as the governor passed through the town of CHEJU. He made a brief talk on the need for team-work in overcoming the difficulties of setting KOREA up as an independent nation. Provincial Governor RYU Hei Chin spoke briefly and politely in assurance of the general cooperation which the governor could expect. (CIC F/R #704)
