SECRET WEEKLY ACTIVITIES OF DIS CG, USANGIK ADIS 2 August 1948 DIS AG 6[illegible] 1. Colonel W. H. S. Wright joined from ZI. He becomes Advisor to Chief of Staff, and Exec of Prov MAG. 2. Money captured from Communists in mountains at Cheju do remains in hands of Civil Affairs Officer there; Major Noel awaiting disposition by MG. 3. Area for KMAG a. With approval of CG, 7th Division, an area for compound of KMAG has been selected in 7th Division. This area is compact, not taking much more area than a square city block. It contains 32 houses and one large unfinished house. It can be easily wired in. The whole area can be easily protected with minimum guards. b. The thought that this small group, 61 (less 20), of Americans should be located in Seoul in one compound and another larger group (Supply, guard, etc) will be located in another area does not seem logical, efficient or desired from the standpoint of maintenance, recreation facilities, guard, messing, protection, etc. We are proceeding to consolidate, transfer, repair and move families in, however. 4. Advisor to DIR, DIS, and team inspected Headquarters, 1st Brigade at Susiak, 1 August. 1st Brigade Headquarters is organized under good C. O. Location is poor, considering location of major units, and will be relocated in near future. Found not to be using issued transportation and facilities to maximum. Care of Ordnance was not good. All but one Brigade headquarters and two Regiments have so far been inspected by this group. These units are difficult to reach at present. 5. Trial of murderers of Colonel Pak (Cheju do) gets under way this week. 6. KC Engr Platoon now operating with 4 compressors at Kumje with Agriculture Department was not relieved as noted last week. Will remain until 15 August. 7. Six English-speaking Korean Officers leave this week for Ft. Benning. Classification lowered to RESTRICTED by authority [illegible] graduated 255 candidates and they were commisof [illegible] (Signed name and grade.)
