Lee's death in action during the first [illegible] April seems to have been confirmed. After about three weeks of [illegible] evidence, Kim's death, reported on March 24, has not been accepted [illegible] the Korean Army. Guerrilla Strength in the Chiri-san Area *Lee was a former member of the South Korea Labor Party's Central [illegible] and led a group of 300 guerrillas from the North into the [illegible] in September 1949. **Kim has been a guerrilla leader since the 1948 uprisings on [illegible] He was alleged to have been in Yosu in October 1948 when dis[illegible] Army units rebelled. Later, he was in the Chiri-san area [illegible] 1949 moved to the Taebaek-san region. With the death of Lee [illegible] be the principal guerrilla chieftan in South Korea. Areas Devoid of Guerrilla Activity At present, no guerrilla activity is reported in Kyonggi Province, North and South Chungchong Provinces or on the Island of Cheju. The Namhae "bulge" is the only affected area in North Cholla Province. The remnants of the "Honam" area (roughly those parts of the North and South Cholla Provinces west of the Somjin River) guerrillas have been pushed into the Jhiri-san area and are included in Chiri-san strength figures.
