Section 1 South Korea current. 5. On 24 April a United States Army C-47 airplane was fired on by 2 snipers as it took off from the Cheju Airstrip on Cheju-Do (F-6). Subversive: A. Civil unrest. 2. On 27 April, South Korean constabulary commenced patrol-action-against-Communist guerrilla bands on Chejudo. Communist activity there has noticeably slackened this period. At least 60 people were killed on Cheju-Do between 03 and 30 April. Eight of these were police, 27 were rightists, and 25 were Communists (A-1). 3. Most of this periods Communist inspired violence centered in Kyongsang-Pukto province. Summary of violence in South Korea for week: 4 police boxes attacked; 1 attack upon a Cheju Do town; 22 people associated with Communists killed; 12 rightists killed; 23 other assorted demonstrations and disorders. No police were reported killed (police report). B. Sabotage. 2. Sabotage against wire communications was continued this week. Five such incidents were reported from the following: 3 from Kyongsang-Pukto, 1 from Kyonggi-Do; 1 from Chungchong-Iamdo and 1 from Cheju-Do (police reports).
