Cheju Island Election Void: (a) New Election Ordered: A new election has been ordered for two of the three electoral districts on Cheju Island. Acting upon the recommendation of the National Election Committee (NEC), Maj Gen William F. Dean, Military Governor of South Korea, declared the election held 10 May in the two districts null and void, and has ordered that a new election be held on 23 Jun. Gen Dean decided to nullify the elections after a consultation with the NEC, which took into consideration the fact that voting was held to a minimum due to activities and violence of subversive elements. Under such conditions the election in the two electoral districts is not considered a true expression of the will of the people. (e)
