11월 28일 새벽 6시 무장폭도 약 200명과 비무장폭도 500명이 남원리와 위미리를 공격했다. 보고에 따르면 주택 250채가 폭도들에 의해 방화되었으며, 민간인 50명이 사망했고, 민간인 70명과 경찰 3명이 부상당했다. 경찰이 폭도들에게 반격을 가했으나 탄약 부족으로 철수해야 했다. 경비대 1개 중대와 경찰 30명이 서귀포에서 증파되어 폭도들을 공격했다. 최근 접수된 보고에 따르면 이 작전으로 폭도 30명이 사살되었고 3명이 생포되었다고 하며, 경찰은 1명이 부상당했다. (경찰보고)

(2) Raider Activities on CHEJU-DO
At 280600 November an estimated 200 armed raiders and 500 unarmed raiders attacked the villages of NAMWON-NI (970-1130), and WIMI-NI (960-1120). Two hundred fifty homes were reportedly burned by the raiders, 50 civilians were killed and 70 civilians and 3 policemen were injured. Local police counter-attacked the raiders but were forced to withdraw because of lack of ammunition. One Constabulary company and 30 policemen were sent from SOGTIPO (950-1120) to attack the raiders. The latest report received of this action stated that 30 raiders had been killed and 3 captured. One policeman was wounded in the attack. (Police Report)
