Constabulary units are still being inspected by US and Korean personnel. A survey of the training completed by the Constabulary units indicates a need for additional training by all rifle units. The Chief of Staff of the Constabulary recently visited the Second Regiment at Taejon (1140-1470). This unit was scheduled to depart for Cheju Do on 15th December. All possible precautionary measures were taken prior to this units movement to prevent an occurrence similar to that which took place at the time of the-proposed-movement-of-elements-of-the-14th Regt-to Cheju Do on 19th October. Subversive. 3. On Cheju Do on 14th December 4 joint raids conducted by the Constabulary and civilians resulted in 105 raiders killed. Other operations during the period netted an additional 32. On 16th December 500 raiders were reported to have surrendered to the Constabulary. Comment: In ever increasing numbers the civilians on Cheju Do are continuing to assist the authorities by combing the hills for guerrillas, probably to retaliate for indescriminate guerrilla activity against their villages.
